Open for Summer 2022!

COVID-19 Considerations

May 16, 2022

Working together to have a happy, healthy summer!

Understanding that much has and continues to change surrounding COVID-19 with regard to Guidelines, Orders and Directives issued by the Minister of Health and the Chief Medical Officer of Health, Camp Wabikon’s Directors and Medical Staff have agreed to the following protocols and procedures for individuals in our care this summer. The following information is provided to you with the hope that you understand our top priority is to ensure all campers, CITs and Staff are healthy prior to arriving at camp and remain healthy while at camp.

COVID-19 VACCINATIONS: As initially stated when registration for Summer 2022 opened, we are requesting that all eligible campers, CITs, Staff and visitors to Wabikon this summer be up to date with their COVID-19 vaccinations. You will be asked to indicate your camper’s vaccination details when completing their Medical Form online.

CAMPER MEDICAL FORM: You will receive an email from Camp Wabikon once the 2022 Medical Form is available for you to complete through your online account. If anything should change regarding your camper’s health between the time you complete the form and the time they arrive at camp, please be sure to contact the camp office to ensure those details are included. The confidential details you provide will help our nurses and staff provide the best care for your camper(s).

INTERNATIONAL FAMILIES: Please visit the following link for up to date travel requirements from the Government of Canada.

TESTING: Currently summer camps are not considered a High Risk Setting whose attendees are eligible for PCR testing. To that end, we believe the following testing framework will be most helpful in identifying cases of COVID-19, in a manner that is most comfortable for campers, CITs and Staff, both before they arrive at camp and should they exhibit symptoms at camp.
Before camp: Using Rapid Antigen Test kits procured by your own family, each camper, CIT and Staff will be asked to test 3 times within the week leading up to their arrival at camp; on Monday, Thursday, and Sunday (arrival day). Wabikon will provide you with an Attestation Form to be printed and on which to record that the result of all 3 tests is negative. Families will be required to submit this completed form prior to boarding the camp bus or boat, depending on how your camper/CIT/Staff will be arriving at camp. If you are unable to access Rapid Antigen Test kits, please contact the camp office.
At camp: Rapid Antigen Tests will be administered by the camp nurse to any individual who has been assessed, monitored, and is suspected of having COVID-19.

ILLNESS
Before camp: We appreciate your assistance with keeping communicable illness out of camp. Should your camper exhibit any of the following symptoms: FEVER/CHILLS, VOMITING, DIARRHEA, SORE THROAT, HEADACHE, COUGH, SHORTNESS of BREATH, RUNNY NOSE, NASAL CONGESTION, DECREASE or LOSS of SMELL and TASTE, MUSCLE ACHES, JOINT PAIN, EXTREME FATIGUE, ABDOMINAL PAIN, CONJUNCTIVITIS (pink eye), ITCHY SKIN or EYES, please keep them in your care until they are well enough to join our extended camp family.
At camp: Any individual exhibiting symptoms of a communicable illness will be assessed by a camp nurse and supported in isolation to monitor symptom development. If the individual tests positive for COVID-19 parents will be asked to arrange for the pick-up and at-home treatment of their camper. For this reason, it is of utmost importance that the emergency contact for your camper is someone who is able to pick-up and care for your child in your absence. You provided this Emergency Contact information on your Household Information Form during registration. Please ensure it is accurate.

MASKING: We strongly recommend that masks be worn while travelling to camp on the bus, as this is an initial and prolonged gathering of a large group of individuals within a closed space. Once at camp individuals are welcome to wear a mask whenever it makes them comfortable to do so. It is likely that individuals visiting the Med Shed will be asked to wear a mask for their own protection and that of others in the Med Shed at the time of their visit. Wabikon will have a supply of masks available for use this summer as wished/needed by our campers, CITs and Staff.

Should you have questions regarding any of the information contained in this document, please contact us. Camp Wabikon does not wish to exclude any individual from the experience of camp. That being said, we must remember that camp is a community, and we all need to work together to make it a safe space.

Thank you for your time, assistance and understanding.
